Class FAQs

 Antenatal Education

  • Ok so let’s start by acknowledging that the term ‘hyonobirthing’ isn’t the best! BUT I promise you, it really will have a positive impact.

Think of it like this…firstly there’s the “hypno” part (understanding the brain, birth hormones, relaxations, breathing techniques etc). This is all about undoing the fear around birth that many of us have. It’s logical, science-based chat - there is no stage hypnosis!

Then there’s the “birthing” bit - all the info you’d hope to get at traditional antenatal classes (place of birth, different modes of birth, birth plans (I prefer preferences!), signs of labour etc). So yes, it can have a positive impact on every birthing person & their partner. You can apply what you learn in many situations. We know that not all births are straightforward, but hypnobirthing always makes a difference - try it and you’ll see!

  • You can join any time that suits you. As a guide you may want to join 2-3 months before your estimated due date - giving you plenty of time to absorb the information and to practice any hypnobirthing techniques (don’t worry, it’s simple things that make a difference!).

  • The KGHypnobirthing course is split into 4 parts:

    • An introduction to hypnobirthing and the science behind it all

    • How to mentally and physically prepare for birth

    • Making informed decisions, going ’overdue’, induction, stretch & sweeps

    • Place of birth, signs of labour, when to call, other comfort measures, stages of labour, birth preferences.

We will cover modules 1 & 2 on the first day and 3 & 4 on the second.. You’ll also get resources and yummy snacks (brownies anyone?!).

  • The 2 in 1 antenatal course I offer is £250. Think of it as an investment. The way we experience labour and birth can have a lifelong impact and being “in the know”, confident and calm makes all the difference! Yes, you could just read a book or do an online course. But just like learning a new language or instrument, you’ll always gain more from working with a teacher. A £50 deposit is required on booking, with the remaining fee due 10 days before the course starts.

  • There are, of course, other antenatal classes out there. And whilst I can’t comment on their content, I can say for sure that there really is no need to do any other course! I’m a firm believer in finding the right teacher for you, and if you feel drawn to my values then I’d love to hear from you!

  • Yes. If you’d prefer a one to one course please get in touch. The content is the same as the group course and I’ve found works well if you’re looking for more flexibility or prefer individual support. If you choose this option, the KGH course will be held online with me over 4 evenings or 2 weekend days, and you will also be offered a space on the next available Postnatal & Infant Feeding Course (online). Private courses are £330 (or £300 for hypnobirthing only).

To book a 1:1 course please email blossomwithmidwiferachel@gmail.com to arrange.

  • Yes! I have taught these classes to many parents, some of whom have had unplanned caesareans and others who have had elective caesareans. In the case of unplanned caesareans, hypnobirthing doesn’t just stop when labour isn’t going as you’d hoped. You absolutely can use what you’ve learnt in this scenario, it’ll always help! If you know you’ll be having a caesarean, you may prefer to do a specific session with me where we can include info on what to expect and how to make it positive. Get in touch to discuss more.

  • Yes! If you have done a hypnobirthing course with me before or similar then a refresher is a great way to remind you of the key information. I am happy to personalise these to your needs.

£70 (2 hours online). Includes resources.

To book a refresher course please email blossomwithmidwiferachel@gmail.com to arrange.

  • I offer 10% off courses (both groups and one to ones) for those who are in the emergency services/NHS (you or your partner). For a discount code, please email Rachel at blossomwithmidwiferachel@gmail.com with proof of the above.

“There’s a lot of classes but we chose Rachel as she is a fantastic midwife so we felt comfortable in her calm, kind, expert hands. We really got a lot out of the postnatal session all of which we learned we are still using 3 months post birth. We have raved about this class to everyone”

 Yoga FAQs

  • You can start after you have had your dating scan (around 12 weeks). You can then join weekly until your baby is due.

  • Absolutely not! Many people who join pregnancy yoga have not done yoga before. These classes are relaxed and welcoming of all abilities.

  • Pregnancy yoga has so many benefits for your mind & body. Growing a baby is incredible but it can be tiring, putting a strain on your joints, lower back and pelvis.

The gentle movement, stretches and breathing covered in pregnency yoga can help to:

    • Connect with your body and your instincts - building your confidence.

    • Manage any tension you may be holding

    • Reduce anxiety

    • Opportunity to practice movements that can help optimize baby’s position and are great to use in labour.

    • Take time to connect and bond with your baby

  • Yes you can. Please let me know if you are experiencing PGP or symphysis pubis dysfunction and I can modify some of our movements to better suit you.

  • £12 per session. Classes are booked in blocks of 4 (weekly). There are some drop in spaces also (£14 per drop in) - these are subject to availability. Block booking will be advertised first.

  • I provide all the props needed for class (mat, bolster, blocks etc). Feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer, and a bottle of water.

Sometimes we will use a gym ball in class. If this is going to be used I will let you know prior to the class. I would recommend investing in one anyway as they’re great to use through pregnancy!

 Birth Debrief FAQ

  • Birth debriefs are an opportunity for you to tell your story. You may be finding it difficult to think about your birth experience, have feelings that are hard to navigate, or perhaps your past experience is impacting your feelings around having another baby and you want to talk it through.

During this 1.5 hour private online session, I am here to listen to you. Although I cannot give medical advice, I can use my knowledge and experience to guide our chat.

I will also be completing a course with the College of Perinatal Emotional Health (in October 2024) to further enhance this service.

  • Please email me at blossomwithmidwiferachel@gmail.com and we can arrange a convenient time for your session.

  • A Birth Debrief is £70.
